Doctoral studies at Fraunhofer ISST – we support you

If you work for us as a research assistant, you can identify an exciting and relevant topic for a possible doctorate from your work with us and explore it in depth in your doctoral thesis. You will receive optimal support from our research schools. Here, you will benefit from existing knowledge networks and an exchange platform, learn research methods, and participate in doctoral seminars.

At our institute, you will have access to several doctoral supervisors from different disciplines who can supervise your doctoral studies.

Work-life balance

A healthy work-life balance and the compatibility of family and career are important to us. Depending on the projects, we offer you the opportunity to work remotely from home.

With us, you will work under a collective agreement based on the public sector (TVöD).

Students have the opportunity to write their theses on a project-specific topic from everyday working life. This allows you to optimally combine your studies and your part-time job with us, and we will provide you with technical support.

You can arrange your working hours flexibly in consultation with your team – we take your schedule and exam periods into account.

Our location in the “Leuchtturm” – New Work at Dortmund Harbor

Since the beginning of 2023, our institute has been located in the “Leuchtturm” – our new office building in the digital quarter directly at Dortmund Harbor. From here, you can work flexibly in open office spaces, group rooms, or individual workstations with height-adjustable desks and modern office equipment and technology in an attractive location, or relax a little in our quiet room.

We enjoy spending our lunch break together in our “bISSTro” or at one of the many restaurants in the immediate vicinity.
