Innovation ecosystem at the Dortmund scientific site
Scientific institutions based in Dortmund that – on their own – are already shaping and driving logistics research today are working together under the umbrella of the High Performance Center Logistics and IT. In the High Performance Center, they are now establishing a national infrastructure and innovation ecosystem in cooperation with industry, not only together but also synergetically – from fundamental research to applied research.
The challenge
The High Performance Center Logistics and IT is working on the ongoing establishment of logistics as a scientific discipline – in particular the specialist core of logistics. At the same time, the participating institutions want to transfer logistics principles to the handling of information, thereby strengthening it in terms of information logistics.
Our contribution
The Data Economy department in the information logistics research clan is examining the topic of digital sovereignty. Concepts are prepared, expanded, and demonstrated based on a use case from the 3D printing field. Here the domain-specific programming language D° serves as the basis for implementing the use case. This programming language offers built-in mechanism for the definition and enforcement of usage policies. It is being developed by the Data Economy department.
Results
The High Performance Center delivers state-of-the-art research at the touch point between logistics and IT. As one of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’s currently 17 High Performance Centers in Germany, it bundles science and research at the Dortmund site. We promote networking in the scientific community. We stand for research excellence – with the development and application of the latest technologies, from science to industry.
