Infrastructure for the realization of industrial services in value networks in the context of digital integrity and sovereignty

Digital networking is an important element in securing competitiveness in medium-sized mechanical and plant engineering companies. Complex plants and machines are linked with industrial services, such as maintenance or digital remote services, in order to tailor individual customer solutions over the entire system life cycle. Responding to customer needs through an economical combination of data-based services and physical on-site services requires cross-company value creation: In terms of cooperative service provision, players such as system manufacturers, IT and service providers pool their core competencies and create complex, innovative value-added networks.



The challenge 

The development and provision of data-based services has so far lacked a uniform language that would ensure efficient and secure networking of different companies at network level. The research project "SealedServices" is developing a cooperative value-added network that enables SMEs to independently develop and implement Internet-based services. The aim is to enable a consistent and secure integration of data and services of different partner companies.


Our contribution 

Within the project, the overall goal of Fraunhofer ISST is the design and development of the Sealed Service Ecosystem under consideration of data governance as well as value-added architecture of Internet-based services. The aim is to enable a sovereign data exchange between organizations that defines and enforces common rules of the game. These rules of the game determine which data is exchanged in which quality and how integrity and security is ensured. In addition, the applicability of classical service engineering methods for data management will be investigated and a process model for determining the economic efficiency of Internet-based services (Smart Service Value) will be developed.



The aim of the Sealed Services project is to create a modelling infrastructure (Sealed Services Infrastructure, SSI); a toolbox with which Internet-based services - i.e. both purely data-based and digitally supported physical services - can be developed and implemented independently by SMEs. The aim is to enable the consistent and secure integration of data and services from different partner companies. Security, integrity and also sovereignty of the exchanged data are thus guaranteed to overcome the biggest hurdle and concern of the question "What happens to my data?".
