Digitization in Logistics

Logistics doesn’t move anything without IT

With a turnover of more than EUR 200 billion per year, the logistics in Germany is the third largest sector after the automotive industry and mechanical engineering. In international comparison, it takes a leading position (2016: 1st place[1]).

For industry and trade, it is both cost and competitive factor. Logistics has thereby developed from the classic triad »transport – handling – storage« to a growing market of more and more individual and complex services which are only feasible by a likewise individually designed IT support. The mega trend »Digitization« not only influences established logistics processes, but also affects the entire logistics company, including its ecosystem. New business models for new combinations of services in collaboration with new partners, supported by new technologies, are the result.

The »Digitization in Logistics« sector of Fraunhofer ISST supports logistics companies in meeting these needs and in implementing quickly available, individualized and cost-effective logistics services. The basis for this is our Digital Business Engineering Method [Link].

Based on years of experience in the modeling of business processes and the structure, migration and consolidation of durable, complex systems, Fraunhofer ISST is a competent partner in the logistics industry. The aim is to increase the efficiency of logistics solutions and therefore increase the competitiveness of logistics companies in total.
