Background Information: »EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr«
In February 2010, the EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr won the top cluster competition of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Since this award, the consortium has been regarded as the top cluster for innovative design of high-quality and efficient logistics services. With a funding volume of 40 million euros, it is the largest research and development cluster in logistics to date.
The result is over 100 products and innovations. Existing jobs are secured as well as more than 4000 new jobs created. By 2015 the basis for a market potential of over two billion euros will be laid.
Over 130 partners work together in 30 projects. The 11 education and research partners include, among others, the Fraunhofer Institutes IML and ISST as well as the Center for Logistics & Transport (ZLV) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. About half of the 120 company partners are small and medium-sized enterprises, while the other half consists of large companies.
Together, the cluster partners are developing the logistics of tomorrow. With powerful and robust technologies in logistics, three key social challenges are to be addressed: safeguarding individuality, ensuring the urban supply and preserving the environment and resources. Specifically the EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr with its new products and innovations aims at enabling the individuality of tomorrow – in the sense of individual supply of goods, mobility and production – with 75 percent of today's resources.
