»Service Design Studio« connects BMBF Leading-Edge Cluster »EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr« with the »Logistics Mall«


The efficiency cluster called »LogistikRuhr« won on January 26, 2010 the leading-edge-cluster competition of the federal government. In this way, the consortium under the leadership of the Fraunhofer IML will receive within the next five years funds amounting to approximately 40 million euros. The Fraunhofer ISST will concentrate on the leading topic »Logistics-as-a-Service« and will create for the cluster a »Service Design Studio« based on cloud-computing technology.

The institute is, apart from the project management, also responsible for the content of the Service Design Studio. Here accrues a cloud-based design environment, with the help of which existing logistics-IT services can be transferred into the cloud. The Service Design Studio supports the life-cycle management of those services; service artifacts can be versioned and adjusted to various target platforms. For this purpose suitable target platforms as the Logistics Mall or Amazon AWS are being described formally in a target platform repository. The Service Design Studio has a modular structure and comprises aspects as billing and service quality. The service description of a logistics-IT service can therefore be extended to non-functional features of an aspect. The Service Design Studio provides a tool for service designers, in order to add aspect tags to services and to support the life-cycle management of various target platforms.

The Service Design Studio is the connecting link between the »EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr« and the Logistics Mall, which was developed by the Fraunhofer-Innovationscluster »Cloud Computing for Logistics«. The following cooperation projects will be based on this work and will use the Service Design Studio for the transfer of contents from the leading-edge cluster to the marketing platform Logistics Mall.
