In order to successfully manage the digital transformation, companies need a controlled handling of data as well as a secure cross-company data exchange. Fraunhofer ISST is developing a reference architecture for the »Industrial Data Space« (IDS) together with eleven other Fraunhofer institutes. The IDS ensures digital sovereignty over data and services and ensures the digital identity of all parties involved. The Industrial Data Space is a virtual data space where all companies that adhere to the common rules can exchange, link and enrich data securely and confidently. The »Industrial Data Space Alliance« will accompany the piloting of this architecture in selected use cases.
The project provides a pre-competitive contribution to German industry by laying the foundations for cooperative, open data platforms of the data economy, demonstrating the applicability of existing standards, pointing out further standardization needs and identifying »operating and business models« for the data economy. In its application, the project initially focuses on the three areas of logistics and supply chain, automotive and production. The results will benefit not only the companies, but also related initiatives in the areas of industry 4.0 and smart services.
Fraunhofer ISST is responsible for the development of the central software components such as the »Industrial Data Space Connector« or broker. With the Use-Case-Management, we account for the survey of the industrial requirements as well as the implementation of the Industrial Data Space in real application scenarios.
