»International Data Space«-Architecture implemented in first digital ecosystems

From 1 to 5 April 2019, the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST presents the first implementation based upon the reference architecture of the »International Data Space« at Hannover Tradefair, in Hall 2, Booth C22.

Deutsche Telekom is one of first telecommunication companies, implementing this architecture within corporate reality.

Taking the example of glass bottles, Telekom will show, how differently rated data of the supply chain can be analysed comprehensively. This here demonstrated data ecosystem consists of the Telekom Data Intelligence Hub, the Low-Cost-Tracker and the first ever connector of the International Data Space Association, called »IDS ready«. This Connector is dedicated to a safe and sovereign data exchange via the International Data Space architecture.

This architecture, developed by Fraunhofer under the management of Fraunhofer ISST, establishes a framework which enables the data-owning Company to exchange data with other companies, whilst still always keeping control over distribution as well as usage of said data. The IDS framework creates real data sovereignty within an industrial context and serves as a key component of a data infrastructure in and for Europe.
Telekom uses the reference architecture oft he IDS as an innovative platform for safe and efficient data exchange. During the processing and analysing of data the focus is on innovative, data-driven services and applications based around machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The International Data Spaces Initiative makes open data market places possible for the economy. Via these marketplaces data can be exchanged between trustworthy partners. Data Sovereignty of all parties is always ensured throughout the complete data value chain. The International Data Space is part of a safe data infrastructure and thus a key technology for innovative applications of Artificial Intelligence. It thus contributes to economy’s competitiveness as well as society’s prosperity. As an important component of digital infrastructure, the IDS aides to exploit chances AI offers for the well-being of humanity and companies, as well as encountering risks.

Next to concrete Industry examples , Fraunhofer ISST is showing it’s service portfolio on building such data infrastructures of cataloguing existing data (»Digital Cleanup«), defining data-driven processes and new business models (»Digital Company«) as far as digitally linking companies with each other as well as building multilateral partnerships (»Digital Ecosystem«). The Institute will further inform about potentials of the International Data Space for sovereignly exchanging data within other use cases.

We are looking forward to welcome you at our booth!
