Newly founded association aims to lay the foundation for trustworthy data exchange in the automotive in-dustry
Boris Otto appointed to the board of Catena-X Auto-motive Network
It is the largest project in the automotive industry related to future production concepts: the foundation of the association "Catena-X". It aims to offer soft-ware services based on International Data Spaces (IDS) and Gaia-X, which enable a trustworthy data exchange between all actors in the automotive industry - from the first supplier stage to the OEM. Founding members of this alliance for secure data exchange are ARENA2036, BASF SE, BMW AG, Deutsche Telekom AG, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V. (German Aerospace Center), German Edge Cloud GmbH & Co, Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, ISTOS GmbH, Merce-des-Benz AG, Robert Bosch GmbH, SAP SE, Schaeffler AG, Siemens AG, SupplyOn AG, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Volkswagen AG and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft e.V.. Prof. Dr. Boris Otto, Director at the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST and board member of Gaia-X, European Association for Data and Cloud, AISBL and the Inter-national Data Spaces Association (IDSA), was elected vice-chairman of the board of Catena-X e.V..
The European data infrastructure initiative Gaia-X aims to set a framework for sovereign data exchange according to European values. The "International Data Spaces" will be used as a standard for data exchange at Gaia-X. For years, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has been one of the leading minds and drivers of the International Data Spaces development and has, for example, developed an important contribution to the technical implementation of the standard with the Dataspace Connector.
The association Catena-X is currently one of the largest user initiatives of the International Data Spaces and Gaia-X. It thus makes an important contribution to the practical transfer of the initiatives. As a representative of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in CatenaX e.V., Boris Otto holds the office of Vice Chairman of the Board... for the next four years. In addition to him, Oliver Ganser (BMW) as chairman of the board, Claus Cremers (Siemens) , Steve Schindler-Le Huray (Bosch), Dr. Matthias Dohrn (BASF), Frank Göller (Volkswagen), Hagen Heubach (SAP), Dr. Jürgen Sturm (ZF) and Dr. Inga von Bibra (Mercedes-Benz AG) were elected to the board.
In addition to the project-leading Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST, the following Fraunhofer institutes are involved in the current work:
- Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML
- Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation IOSB
- Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA
- Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF
- Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU
