Boris Otto appointed to the Board of Gaia-X, European Association for Data and Cloud AISBL
The competitiveness of literally all industries as well as societal prosperity in Europe require portability and interoperability of and sovereignty over data. This is the goal of Gaia-X AISBL. The association has now elected its board of directors during an extraordinary general meeting.
The non-profit association Gaia-X AISBL, based in Brussels, has set out to establish a distributed data infrastructure according to European standards for data storage and sovereign data exchange. Within this mission, the International Data Spaces, which were co-developed from the beginning by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Boris Otto, Institute Director at the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST, form a central basis. Boris Otto himself has been actively involved in shaping Gaia-X from the beginning and already helped with his work as interim CTO when the association was founded.
"I am very much looking forward to contributing my expertise on sovereign data exchange in ecosystems so that GAIA-X achieves a goal-oriented balance between innovation, feasibility and market maturity," says Prof. Dr. Boris Otto. "In this network, we will jointly find the best concept for our economy and society - according to European values, but usable worldwide."
As a representative of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, i.e. a neutral, non-profit research organization, Boris Otto already holds various strategic positions in the most important initiatives on data ecosystems in Europe. These include the IDS Association, the Catena-X Automotive Network and the Data Space Mobility in Germany. He is also a member of the "Digital Business Models" working group of the German Industrie 4.0 platform.
