AI-NET-PROTECT

Accellerating digital transformation in Europe by Intelligent NETwork automation - Providing Resilient & secure networks [Operating on Trusted Equipment] to CriTical infrastructures

The "AI-NET-PROTECT" project is concerned with providing automated resilience and secure networks on trusted devices for critical infrastructures and enterprises. This means taking measures to prevent total failure of these networks and infrastructures. The goal of the project is to ensure the protection of critical data, high performance in terms of key performance parameters (such as latency, throughput, availability), and high robustness of the network infrastructure (e.g., against manipulation and attacks). These are primarily private networks for the secure site networking of large corporate customers.

The challenge

Today's communication networks are often characterized by high technical complexity for users and operators. Heterogeneous network architectures, edge computing and network slicing as well as constantly increasing demands on quality of service, agility and flexibility cause considerable operational challenges. Configuration errors can endanger not only network resilience, but also the information security of operational and user data. The challenges within »AI-NET-PROTECT« are to develop innovative solutions for these problems based on concrete application scenarios, so that intelligent end-to-end automation at the network and service level will enable autonomous network operation in the future.

Our contribution

Fraunhofer ISST contributes to the platform development, which enables a secure and trustworthy end-to-end service provision, e.g. for data exchange. For this purpose, it is first necessary to design a solid and sustainable architecture in addition to eliciting requirements for the data marketplace. In order to increase the trust in service providers, connectors of the International Data Spaces (IDS) are developed by Fraunhofer ISST, which enable data exchange while maintaining data sovereignty aspects. In order to future-proof the platform at the center of the project, suitable links to Gaia-X will be established on a technical level, and interfaces will be interconnected on a technical level to ensure compatibility.

Results

As results, Fraunhofer ISST provides the IDS Connectors developed for the platform as well as a central concept document for the (further) development of the Connectors, their architecture and connection to Gaia-X.
