Security, privacy and abuse prevention

Research on identity management, policy enforcement, and secure data exchange.

Ensuring data protection, integrity, and trust is a prerequisite for the acceptance and long-term success of digital ecosystems. Companies are facing increasingly complex requirements in the areas of identity management, policy enforcement, tamper resistance, and regulatory compliance. Traditional security approaches are often insufficient to protect sensitive data, ensure compliance with legal requirements, and maintain the trustworthiness of digital platforms. Our research area develops holistic security concepts that combine modern cryptography, decentralized identities, automated compliance checks, and innovative protocols for machine identity management.

A particular focus is on developing solutions for cross-border data assurance that enable secure and trustworthy data exchange in international and highly networked contexts. We support companies in implementing secure and transparent data infrastructures that comply with regulatory requirements and promote the acceptance of digital solutions. Our research includes the development of new security architectures, the performance of risk analyses, the support of proof-of-concepts, and close cooperation with partners from industry, academia, and standardization bodies.

The results of our work show that the use of modern security and data protection technologies can significantly increase the security, transparency, and user-friendliness of digital systems. Our solutions strengthen trust in digital platforms, promote the widespread use of innovative technologies, and contribute to making the digital transformation secure, responsible, and sustainable.

Examples from our projects

Our research projects are developed in close collaboration with industry partners. They are market- and demand-oriented, with the aim of providing applicable solutions for the cloud edge ecosystem.

NTT: Dataspace Connector Proof-of-Concept (PoC) / Connecting NTT with the International Data Spaces

NTT is a Japanese telecommunications company that deals with global, cross-company data exchange, among other things. A decisive factor here is data sovereignty in order to ensure that the shared data is not misused or passed on without authorization. As this is also a central topic of the International Data Spaces (IDS), the international data exchange at NTT is to be implemented as an example with the help of the IDS as part of the project. The resulting infrastructure will then continue to operate for two months.
