Application FAQ

So that no questions remain unanswered about your application.

  • Please apply exclusively via our online application portal. You can access this by clicking on the "Apply now" button at the end of a job advertisement. After registering, you will be able to create, save and submit one or more applications. Please make sure that you not only save your application in the application portal, but also send it to us using the corresponding button. Unfortunately, we cannot consider applications sent by e-mail or post.

  • Your application should include a current CV as well as relevant certificates, proof of work and grade overviews. A short cover letter in which you introduce yourself and your motivation can also be very helpful to us in our selection process.

In the application portal, it is sufficient if you attach your CV as a file - you do not need to enter it separately by hand in the form.

  • It is best to upload all application documents (CV, cover letter, references) to our application portal as PDF files.

  • Feel free to send your cover letter to the contact person listed in the job advertisement.

  • If you are interested in several of our job advertisements, you are welcome to apply for them. To do so, please register on our application portal and apply for the various positions one after the other.

  • After submitting your application via our online application portal, you will first receive an automatic confirmation of receipt by e-mail. Please also check your spam folder if you did not find an e-mail in your mailbox. Your application will now be forwarded to the relevant department, where it will be carefully reviewed. This may take some time. You will receive feedback from us as soon as your application has been reviewed. We will arrange appointments for you to get to know each other by phone or e-mail.

  • Currently, we conduct interviews either by video call via Microsoft Teams or in person at our institute in Dortmund. We are happy to take your wishes and availability into account.

  • You are interested in our activities and topics, but there is currently no suitable position advertised? Then take the opportunity to send us an initiative application! We have advertised two initiative positions (one for student assistants and final theses and one for direct entry), which you are welcome to apply for. In order to increase the chances of your initiative application, we ask you to submit documents (cover letter, CV, certificates) that are as informative and complete as possible. Please provide as much detail as possible about the area in which you would like to support us.

  • TVöD is the collective bargaining agreement for the public sector. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft's employment, remuneration and social benefits are governed by the provisions of the TVöD. You can find out more about the TVöD (federal government) and its pay scales here.

  • Each job advertisement contains a contact person with telephone number and/or e-mail address. If you have any questions about the content of the job, please contact this person. Our recruiter Felix Franke (felix.franke@isst.fraunhofer.de) will be happy to help you with any questions about applications.

  • As a research institution, we comply with the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG). Therefore, many positions are initially advertised for a fixed term of e.g. 2 years. You can find more information about the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz here.

  • At our institute, you have the opportunity to write final theses such as your bachelor's or master's thesis as well as project work as part of your studies. In many cases we also offer a PhD opportunity at our institute. You will benefit from our experience, a supportive atmosphere and an existing knowledge network. Our research schools are happy to support you in your doctoral studies.

  • You can log in to our online application portal with your access data at any time and withdraw your application and delete your data there in the candidate profile.
