Artificial intelligence has the potential to fundamentally transform product development by automating and accelerating processes from the initial idea through to market launch. However, this potential can only be realized if companies establish the right technical, organizational, and data-related foundations early on. The white paper describes a scalable framework that helps companies transition from isolated pilot projects to a holistic, enterprise-wide use of AI and strategically align it. It distinguishes between vertical use cases, which optimize individual processes, and horizontal use cases, which interconnect data, tools, and disciplines. While many companies currently rely primarily on vertical solutions, the greatest long-term benefit lies in horizontal integration, as it enables cross-functional synergies and improves overall value creation. To realize this potential, companies must both implement concrete use cases early on and invest in an interoperable infrastructure, high-quality and accessible data, and suitable technologies, while simultaneously establishing clear governance structures. Without these measures, there is a risk that AI initiatives will remain fragmented and fail to realize their full potential.
