A high-performance laboratory platform for the Bauhaus.MobilityLab



Bauhaus.MobilityLab Erfurt aims to develop an open, service-oriented ecosystem to more effectively link the energy, transport, mobility, environment, and logistics sectors. The core of BML-EcoSys is a high-performance laboratory platform for the providers and users of new (mobile) services to interact from the outset, jointly developing and testing innovative solutions using AI applications.

The challenge

How can intelligent traffic control be realized? Where should mobility stations be established? What payment models make car sharing more attractive? How could the organization of public transit be improved?

In order to answer these questions, numerous challenges have to be overcome in the areas of data exchange, data usage policies, and data governance in the emerging ecosystems.


Our contribution

The platform for the exchange and evaluation of datasets by the laboratory users of the Bauhaus.MobilityLab is intended to account for European values such as self-determination, participation, federalism, and openness with regard to its architecture and infrastructure. That is why the BML ecosystem is being implemented based on the innovative International Data Spaces (IDS) reference architecture. Fraunhofer ISST provides advice to the project consortium for implementing the laboratory platform based on the IDS reference architecture and looks after compliance with the IDS requirements. We also develop the IDS connectors for the various project partners to exchange data within the ecosystem.



The Bauhaus.MobilityLab Erfurt is creating a unique living lab in the heart of Germany where sustainable and intelligent mobility, logistics, and energy supply solutions can be developed, tested, and experienced. Through cross-sector networking and by using the latest artificial intelligence approaches for designing the mobility, logistics, and energy applications of the future, the Bauhaus.MobilityLab makes an important contribution to the technical, economic, and sustainable development of Germany as an AI site.
